Growers in Germany have started trimming their Christmas trees in anticipation of a nearly 500-year-old tradition.
Germans Christmas has been celebrated with decorated trees for centuries. This tradition spread elsewhere in the 19th century Europeand immigrants adopted this practice United States of America,
“For us, it’s really just before Christmas now,” Eberhard Henneke told The Associated Press in the western Sauerland region on Monday. “The harvest is starting here, and that naturally means things are getting a little busier.”
Heineke said the region produces about a third of Germany’s Christmas trees.
Most of the trees are sold in cities. But cutting down trees on site has become increasingly popular among families. Some tree farms now offer mulled wine and snacks.
“When families come with their kids, grandparents and everyone else, and they pick out their Christmas tree together, you can feel the atmosphere, and it’s really impressive and makes you happy, too,” Henneke said.
