The Chinnaswamy crowd went crazy when Virat Kohli spoke Kannada at the RCB unboxing event.Watch | Cricket News

Star batsman Virat Kohli is the epitome of loyalty for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and has been a part of the team since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. Kohli received huge applause from the fans during the RCB unboxing event held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Tuesday. The RCB men’s team provided a guard of honor to the women’s team after the Smriti Mandhana-led team won the WPL 2024 title last week, beating Delhi Capitals in the final.

As RCB fans gave Mandhana a warm welcome, Kohli decided to join in the fun and said a few words in Kannada, the local language of Karnataka.

Kohli said in a viral video that this is a new chapter for RCB.

“I just want to let everyone know, Idu RCB’ya Hosa Adhaya,” said the former RCB captain.

The packed Chinnaswamy crowd went wild after Kohli’s gesture.

Fans have been calling the star batsman ‘King Kohli’ for years.

However, Kohli asked host Dan Danset and fans not to call him ‘King’ as he gets embarrassed every time he hears the word and even revealed a conversation with Faf du Plessis on the topic .

“We need to get to Chennai quickly tonight. We have a charter flight, so we don’t have much time.”

“First of all, you need to stop calling me that word (King). Please call me Virat. Don’t call me that word (King), I just tell Faf du Plessis that every year when you call me that word , I am all embarrassed… So please call me Virat, from now on, don’t use this word, it is very embarrassing for me,” Kohli said.

Kohli hopes that the men’s team can emulate the success of the women’s team in the WPL in the IPL this time.

“It’s absolutely amazing. We were all watching when they won the title (WPL). Hopefully we can double the trophy and it will be something really special,” Kohli said at the RCB Unbox event.

Kohli, who will start his 17th season with RCB in IPL 2024, said he will rely on his skills and experience to turn his dream of winning the IPL trophy this year into a reality.

“My dream is to know what it feels like to win the IPL trophy. I will be here and be part of the team that wins the trophy for the first time. “I will use my abilities and experience to do my best to be able to serve the fans and the ball. The team does that,” said the former RCB captain.
