Fauja Singh A car collided, while trying to cross a road in his berth village Punjab On Monday.
His London -based Running Club, Sikhs In the city, his death was confirmed and said that his upcoming program would be a celebration of his life and achievements.
Born in the British -ruled Punjab in April 1911, Singh was said to be suffering from thin and weak legs as a child.
The youngest of four children in an agricultural family, he was unable to walk until he was five years old.
He moved to England and settled in 1992 after his wife Gian Kaur’s death in Jalandhar with his son in East London.
It was not until 2000, at the age of 89, that he ran away, and was growing quickly for fame by completing his first marathon in London in six hours and 54 minutes – 58 minutes faster than the best of the previous world in the 90 -plus age group bracket.
He made his name by defeating several records for the marathon time in a several age group brackets, and became an inspiration for countless athletes by running a marathon before the age of 100 years.
His individual best came to the Toronto Marathon in 2003, where he ran the course in just five hours 40 minutes.
He then became the first century to run the marathon after eight years and retired at the age of 101 after the torchbier for the London 2012 Olympics.
Among the Sikhs in the city, Fauja Singh’s coach Harmander Singh confirmed his death in a statement posted to the running club.
The statement said: “The most beloved runner. It is very sad that we can confirm the power plant of humanity’s icon and positivity, Fauja Singh has died in India. 114 years old.
“He died due to injuries caused by a vehicle accident while crossing the road close to his house.”
Club will dedicate all its programs by March next year to celebrate Singh’s life and achievements. It asked those who mourn to donate their club house appeal instead of buying flowers.
Labor MP Preet Kaur Gill also paid tribute to the runner, posted on X: “Sadly sad to hear about Fauja Singh’s death.
“I was respected to meet him. In fact an inspirational man. His discipline, simple life and deep humility left a permanent mark on me.
“A reminder that is just a number of age, but the attitude is everything. Power, relax in legends.”
