The body of 9 Assam workers killed in Ener thermal plant blew up the house

Chennai, 2 October (IANS) The bodies of nine migrant workers of Assam, who died in a disastrous construction site accident at the Enor Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Super Critical Thermal Power Station near Chennai, were flown in their original state on a special flight organized by the Tamil Nadu government on Thursday morning.

The deadly accident occurred on Tuesday evening when a large -scale steel structure was created for the coal handling unit of the 2×660 MW plant.

Ten workers engaged through a sub-contractor of Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL) stood on the 45-meter high platform, when the arches collapsed, crashed them.

Avadi fled to the rescue team of City Police and Fire and Rescue Services, but nine workers died with their serious injuries at the government Stanley Medical College Hospital.

A Jharkhand worker survived with minor friction and stays in observation.

After the post -mortem examinations at Stanley Hospital, their bodies were provoked and kept in coffins.

Completing a commitment made immediately after the accident, Chief Minister MK Stalin approved a soltium of every ₹ 10 lakh to the bereaved families. He also instructed the officials to ensure the prestigious repatriation of the victims.

The remains along with family members and representatives of the construction firm were shifted to the Cargo Terminal of Old Chennai Airport at around 2.30 pm on Thursday and later flew to Guwahati.

President of Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation (TangedCO) J. Radhakrishnan said that safety gear, including harness, were in use, but sudden collapse gave up very little possibilities of survival.

State officials are coordinating with BHEL’s security team to investigate the cause of structural failure. The tragedy has renewed concerns over the works of work, safety and inspection in large infrastructure projects.

Officials said that interrogation is going on, and after completion of the investigation, they will follow the action against the contractors responsible.
