The BJP will contest 17 seats in Bihar, JDU 16 and Chirag Paswan’s party 5

New Delhi:

The NDA tonight officially announced the seat allocation plan for Bihar, which puts the BJP firmly in the “big brother” position in the state with 17 seats up for grabs. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United, which had been leading the alliance in Bihar, will contest 16 seats. Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party will contest five seats, Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustan Awam Awam Morcha and Upendra Kushwaha’s RLM got one seat each.

The BJP faction led by Chirag Paswan’s uncle Pashupati Paras got a cabinet berth after splitting the party three years ago, but he is not part of the NDA . The Palestine faction was disbanded after it became apparent that Chirag Paswan’s forces had complete control over Paswan’s votes. The community accounts for 6% of the voting population.

The BJP captured Nawada, a BJP stronghold, and handed Sheoghar to Mr Kumar’s JD(U) to replace Gaya and Karakot. The JD(U) also won Kishanganj but lost to the Congress last time.

Sources said Nitish Kumar, who lobbied hard for the Sheohar seat, is likely to field Lovely Anand, who joined the party tonight. Lovely Anand is the wife of former MP Anand Mohan and the mother of then RJD MLA Chetan Anand, who openly supported Nitish Kumar during the trust vote ) of JD(U).

Kumar’s JD(U) broke the grand alliance for the second time earlier this year and joined hands with the BJP, but it appears indifferent to its changing status. “We are confident that the NDA will win all 40 seats,” the BJP’s Sanjay Jha said today.

Even in 2019, after a silent but fierce confrontation, the two parties still decided to compete for equal seats in a 50:50 ratio.

The BJP and Kumar-led Janata Dal had 17 seats each in the division, which was then contested by Chirag Paswan’s father Ram Vilas Paswan ) led by the People’s Party has 6 seats.

Kumar, who switched sides after being upset over multiple issues in the Indian group, said he would now stay in the NDA “forever”.
