The BJP kept GST reforms as a festival of savings; Records cite car sales, relief in drug prices

New Delhi, 23 September (IANS) BJP spokesperson and Lok Sabha MP Sambbit Patra said on Tuesday that the first day of new GST reforms (22 September) saw “unprecedented enthusiasm” among consumers, described the rollout as “Bonanza” with the onset of Navratra.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters, Patra said that reforms had triggered record-breaking sales in the automobile sector, as well as with adequate savings for ordinary homes on essential commodities and medicines.

“Maruti Suzuki, a prominent name in the region, has broken its 35 -year record today. Hyundai showrooms also saw their highest sales in five years. On the first day, Maruti gave 25,000 cars,” said Patra.

He said that dealerships across the country remained open till midnight to complete the delivery, more than 80,000 inquiries were registered and the booking was touching 75,000.

He said, “Tata Motors received 25,000 inquiries and gave 10,000 cars on the first day. Whether it is Mahindra or other, customer enthusiasm has been like a celebration,” he commented.

Patra also highlighted relief in the health sector, given that the prices of important drugs fell after GST rate rationalization.

“On the first day, patients buying medicines for blood pressure and diabetes saved Rs 300-500. Cancer patients have also benefited, as well as medicines for throat infections, fever and other common diseases,” he said.

He said that reforms had reduced the cost not only for medicines and health insurance, but also for footwear, clothing and electronic goods, which provide wide relief to the common man.

“Yesterday, BJP and NDA ministers visited markets across the country to interact with shopkeepers and customers. The response was heavy.

Accepting the time of reforms, Patra said, “This is a blessing on the first day of Navratra. It is like a festival for every house.”
