As the coolness of autumn sets in, the heat of summer soon becomes a distant memory.

You’ve probably heard of ever-popular Tenerife – with the UNESCO city of San Cristóbal de la Laguna, the Anaga Biosphere Reserve and the volcanic Mount Teide – but its lesser-known Canary island neighbor La Gomera also has plenty to offer nature lovers. This hidden, little-traveled gem, the second-smallest of the main islands of the Canaries, is an easy boat trip from Tenerife. Temperatures in these parts hover around 19 to 23C, which is perfect for being active, including hiking through the cloud forests of Garajonay National Park.
