Beed, Nov 5 (IANS) Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday announced that the Mahayuti government’s Rs 31,628 crore package for rain and flood-affected farmers is not acceptable and demanded immediate implementation of the farm loan waiver for farmers in Maharashtra instead of June next year.

Uddhav Thackeray criticized Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for announcing that farm loan waiver will be done before June next year and took a dig at him, saying he was sitting with the Panchang and “looking for Rahu and Ketu.”

Uddhav Thackeray, who started his four-day visit to natural disaster-hit Marathwada after talking to farmers in Pali village, criticized Chief Minister Fadnavis’s statement in which he had said that if the government gives farm loan waiver, it will not be the farmers but the banks who will benefit.

“Now the Chief Minister has set a deadline of June next year. If they are going to waive off loans in June, should farmers pay the installments of existing loans or not? If there is going to be a loan waiver, why should they pay the instalments? Will all the loans be waived off in June?” Uddhav Thackeray asked.

Uddhav Thackeray claimed that Chief Minister Fadnavis’ announcement of loan waiver before June next year is another empty promise.

He told the farmers, “Tell them, ‘First waive off the loans, then we will vote for you.’ Farmers are food providers and will vote only when the government waives off loans.”

“I have a video of Devendra Fadnavis in which he is saying that farmers will be made debt free after the government comes to power. What happened to that promise?” he asked.

The leader said that “he may lack intelligence or he may not be a farmer, but after taking charge as the Chief Minister of the state he immediately waived off farm loans of farmers up to Rs 2 lakh.”

Thackeray criticized Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar for his statement that “we had promised loan waiver to the people because we wanted to get elected.”

Thackeray also attacked the Maharashtra government over the implementation of the ‘Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana’ by imposing certain conditions regarding monthly financial assistance. “Is everyone really getting benefits under the Ladki Bahin Yojana? Before the assembly elections, all the women in the family were getting assistance, now only two women in the family are getting the benefits. This means that the BJP is creating fights in the houses.”

“RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is suggesting that women give birth to as many children as possible. Then if there are two sisters in the family, a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law, then who will get financial assistance under the Ladki Bahin Scheme? Those who are getting the benefits are ladkis (beloveds) and those who are not getting the benefits are not loved ones. The government should treat everyone equally, that is the job of the government,” Thackeray commented.
