London commuters told to “avoid the Northern line” due to signal failures travel chaos Third day in the capital.

Transport for London (tfl) says that until engineers can fix the “signal failure at Stockwell”, serious delays will persist along the entire line.

It said: “Please avoid the Northern Line where possible. It will be faster for you to use alternative routes if you can.”

The busy Underground line connects North and South London with routes to Central London via Charing Cross and Bank.

London Buses, Southeastern, Thameslink, trams and South Western Railways are all accepting valid tickets for any reasonable alternative route.

The service was also suspended between Stockwell and Morden yesterday (21 October) this morning while the signal failure at Tooting Broadway was rectified.

One disgruntled passenger wrote on Twitter: “Northern Line tried to ruin my whole day. How can you have signal failure for 10 hours.”

Another said: “The Northern Line has now basically been out of service since 6pm on Sunday. I’m not sure it’s operational.”

Elsewhere, TfL is reporting minor delays eastbound on the District Line between Wimbledon and Earl’s Court and on the Docklands Light Railway between Bank and Lewisham.
