Washington:
U.S. President Joe Biden on Tuesday called the collapse of a Baltimore bridge a “terrible accident” and pledged to quickly restore operations at the major East Coast port after a cargo ship struck a bridge pylon.
Biden said he would dispatch “all federal resources” needed to deal with the incident, which occurred early Tuesday morning. Authorities say six people are missing, all construction workers working on repairs to the Francis Scott Key Bridge.
“I’m instructing my team to do everything we can to reopen the ports and rebuild the bridges as quickly as possible,” Biden said in a brief speech at the White House, while acknowledging: “This is going to take some time. “
