New Delhi, Nov 4 (IANS) The Delhi government plans to celebrate the upcoming 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur on a large scale by setting up a tent city for devotees near the Red Fort. An official gave this information on Tuesday.
Three lawns of the historic Red Fort have been identified for the main events, where a grand Kirtan Darbar will be organised, the official said in a statement.
Minister of Art, Culture and Languages and Tourism Kapil Mishra said that proper arrangements will be made for ‘Langar Seva’ for the devotees and a tent city will be set up at the Ramlila Maidan to provide accommodation and necessary facilities to the visitors.
Earlier, during a meeting at the Delhi Secretariat, Mishra and Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa reviewed the preparations for the Martyrdom Day celebrations on November 25.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of Punjabi Academy, Department of Arts, Culture and Languages, Department of Tourism, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and other concerned institutions.
The meeting focused on coordination between departments, arrangements and outline of the program programme. It was decided that several cultural, spiritual and public participation programs dedicated to the life, philosophy and supreme sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji will be organized at various places across Delhi.
Mishra said that Guru Tegh Bahadur’s sacrifice was not for any one religion or community, but for the entire humanity.
He said that Delhi is witness to the historic moment when Guru Tegh Bahadur sacrificed his life to protect religious freedom.
He emphasized that the Delhi Government aims to inspire every citizen through the ideals of Guru by strengthening the values of tolerance, love and service in the society.
Sirsa said the event would not just be a tribute, but a global effort to spread the teachings of Guru Tegh Bahadur. He said that the Central Government is also supporting to make this festival more impressive and inspiring.
A temporary museum will also be set up to bring the inspiring life and message of Guru Tegh Bahadur closer to the public, which will include rare paintings, historical documents and exhibition material.
Special bus services will be arranged to facilitate smooth travel of devotees coming from Delhi and neighboring areas to attend the program near the Red Fort.
It was also shared in the meeting that a special theme song based on the teachings of Guru Tegh Bahadur has been composed by famous Punjabi singers and will be released soon. The purpose of this musical tribute is to connect the young generation with Guru Ji’s message.
A public outreach campaign will also be launched across Delhi, displaying promotional materials at key public places, transport hubs and digital platforms to encourage citizen participation in this historic celebration.
