BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma on Thursday raised some important questions on the T20 World Cup team. The BCCI recently announced the 15-member squad for the marquee event with some notable absentees like KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh – the latter two being part of the traveling reserves. India’s team is spin-heavy, with four wickets out of 15. There are concerns about India’s pace as no other fast bowler is in form apart from Jasprit Bumrah. Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh are the other fast bowlers.
When asked who was going to be Bumrah’s partner, Rohit said, “There is a match on the 5th, what will I do if I tell you now.”
BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar also spoke openly on the decision to drop Rinku Singh. “They haven’t done anything wrong, even Shubman Gill. There are some wrist spinners in the team to give Rohit more options. Same is the case for Axar who is a batting all-rounder. We thought Another bowling option could be useful.” “It was difficult for them, but at the end of the day we had to pick the team,” the BCCI chief selector said.
Rohit Sharma also said that the decision to select four spinners was taken thoughtfully.
“I wanted a spinner, there are some technical aspects that I don’t want to go into. There is a reason behind choosing 4 spinners. I don’t want to reveal the reason right now. Having Hardik in the team gives you balance with the fast bowlers too. Akshar and Jaddu can bat, Chahal and Kuldeep are aggressive spinners, we can decide the combination whether Chahal and Kuldeep can also play together or none of those combinations is possible.
