Hyderabad, October 22 (IANS) Telangana Transport Department has informed Chief Minister A. Following the instructions of Revanth Reddy, all their check posts were abolished on Wednesday.
The Transport Department issued an order to immediately implement the Chief Minister’s instructions.
All concerned officials have been directed to submit the complete report on closure of the check post by Wednesday evening.
The move is expected to speed up the transportation network, increase transparency in operations and also reduce administrative burden and costs.
Following allegations of corruption, the state government had decided to remove the check post in August.
After the implementation of GST, many states had abolished check posts on the advice of the Central Government. However, such check posts continued in Telangana.
Taking immediate action on the instructions of the Chief Minister, the Transport Commissioner issued orders to all Deputy Transport Commissioners and all District Transport Officers to immediately suspend all activities at the check posts. The staff currently deployed at these check posts are to be redeployed to other duties without any delay.
Officials have been directed to ensure that vehicular movement continues smoothly on all roads without any interruption.
Boards, barricades and other structures installed at checkpoints should be removed immediately. Officials have been asked to close check posts and vehicle operators have been asked to display new boards in respective languages announcing details of availability of online services.
Services like payment of temporary travel permit and motor vehicle tax will be provided online.
“Remove all physical barriers, barricades and signage installed at the check post sites to ensure unhindered movement of vehicles. The entire removal process will be videographed, the footage will be preserved and forwarded along with the compliance report,” the transport commissioner’s order said.
Additionally, all records, equipment and furniture from the check post are to be shifted to the concerned DTO (District Transport Office) premises. Officials have also been directed to verify and safely preserve all financial and administrative records.
