Hyderabad, Nov 25 (IANS) Congress MLA and government whip Adi Srinivas, Rajanna Sircilla District Collector and other officials narrowly escaped a basement collapse during a visit to houses being built under the housing scheme in Telangana’s Vemulawada on Tuesday.
Vemulawada MLA, District Collector Garima Agarwal and other officials were inspecting double-bedroom houses under construction in Vemulawada municipal limits when the basement suddenly collapsed.
The officials and the MLA’s supporters who accompanied him caught hold of him, saving him from falling.
Following the incident, opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders alleged that the basement collapse during the MLA’s visit exposed corruption in the Congress government.
However, Adi Srinivas said that the incident is a reflection of how the BRS government works.
He claimed that these houses were approved and built by approved contractors during the BRS regime, and alleged that the basements collapsed because poor quality materials were used in the construction merely to earn commission.
The MLA said construction of double bedroom houses was carried out in Narsapuram when BRS was in power. The construction work was left half-completed and whatever construction was done, inferior materials were used.
The ruling party leader said the Congress had raised the issue of corruption and poor quality of works when BRS was in power. He said, “After the Congress party came to power, it decided to complete the houses and hand them over to the beneficiaries. As part of these efforts, I went with the district collector and other officials for inspection. While we were inspecting, the basement collapsed. This is a proof of what we were saying during the BRS regime.”
The MLA alleged that barrages built as part of the Kaleshwaram project also collapsed in a similar manner.
He assured the people that the government will complete the houses as soon as possible and hand them over to the beneficiaries.
