Hyderabad, October 30 (IANS) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday directed officials to intensify relief efforts in flood-hit Warangal city and other parts of the state following heavy rains due to the impact of Cyclone Montha.
CM Revanth Reddy directed the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) to immediately send as many boats as required and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to various flood-affected districts.
He also asked officials to take steps to utilize Hyderabad Disaster Response Force and Property Protection Agency (HYDRA) personnel and flood relief equipment wherever necessary.
The Chief Minister, who reviewed the situation through a video-conference from here, asked officials concerned to immediately evacuate people in flooded areas to safe places and provide drinking water and food packets through drones to families stranded on rooftops.
CM Revanth Reddy said he will conduct aerial survey in Warangal and Husnabad areas on Friday. Due to bad weather he had to postpone his trip to Warangal.
He asked the ministers in-charge of cyclone affected districts to be available at the field level. They should go to the field level and be available to the people and try to help them.
He said, “The government is ready to help the people. We are preparing all necessary schemes for this.”
The Chief Minister said that the Meteorological Department had warned that the cyclone would affect 16 districts and preventive measures had been taken.
He said that since it is the paddy harvesting season, the unexpected disaster has worried the farmers.
He asked the officers to remain alert and instructed the collectors to cancel everyone’s leave and go to the field.
The Chief Minister wanted the power department to remain vigilant to ensure that there is no disruption in power due to strong winds.
He said traffic on damaged roads, bridges and low-lying roads should be diverted and people should be made aware not to come on the roads unless necessary.
He asked officials to monitor the situation round the clock and provide emergency medical services wherever necessary.
The ministers of the joint districts should coordinate with the officials and alert the collectors from time to time. District collectors were instructed to provide information to the ministers in charge from time to time.
In view of overflowing drains, local people should be alerted to prevent accidents. Inflow and outflow of irrigation projects should be monitored from time to time. “We must remain alert at all times to prevent loss of life, loss of livestock and loss of crops,” the chief minister said.
