Hyderabad, October 31 (IANS) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday announced compensation of Rs 10,000 per acre for farmers whose crops were damaged by Cyclone Montha.
After aerial survey of flood-affected areas in combined Warangal district and Husnabad assembly constituency, he announced that an ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh each would be given to the families of those who died in heavy rains and floods due to the cyclone.
At a review meeting at Hanamkonda District Collectorate after the aerial survey, the Chief Minister announced Rs 15,000 each to families whose houses were submerged.
Under the Indiramma scheme, houses will be given to the most affected families, and special assistance will be provided to those who have lost their livestock and standing crops.
Preliminary assessments by the state agriculture department show that the cyclone has damaged crops in more than 4.47 lakh acres.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, he directed officials of all departments to prepare a comprehensive report on the damage caused by floods and heavy rains and immediately submit the report to the government. Officials were ordered to report on crop damage, sand accumulation on agricultural lands, loss of people and livestock, and damage to infrastructure.
The CM appealed to the public representatives to cooperate with the administration while calculating the loss and also submit a report to the district collectors.
The Chief Minister inquired from the officials about the central assistance given to the states during the floods and directed them to immediately obtain the necessary funds from the Central Government.
Emphasizing that plans should be drawn up to find a permanent solution to flood management, CM Revanth Reddy said there was a lack of coordination between departments, and hence all wings should work together to solve civic problems during floods.
Officials were instructed to launch a campaign to demolish encroachments on drains. CM said that the authorities should move forward with a clear vision and take strict steps to protect the interests of the majority.
During the review, the Chief Minister also emphasized that there should be coordination between the municipal administration and irrigation departments to remove encroachment on drains and other water bodies. The officials were directed to prepare a special report on the works to be done for Warangal Smart City and constitute a coordination committee at the field level.
Keeping in mind the fact that cloudbursts have become a regular thing under the impact of climate change, CM Revanth Reddy stressed that plans should be made towards permanent solutions, and district collectors and officials should conduct field inspections regularly.
