Hyderabad, Oct 15 (IANS) Twelve more candidates filed their nominations on Wednesday for the by-election to be held on November 11 for the Jubilee Hills assembly constituency in Hyderabad.
According to Returning Officer P. Sairam, 12 candidates, including nine independents, filed their nominations.
With this the number of nominations filed in the last three days has increased to 33.
Among them, Praveen Kumar Arolla of Praja Velugu Party and Budaiya Amboju of Alliance of Democratic Reforms Party filed their nomination papers on Wednesday.
The process of by-election was started with the issuance of notification by the Returning Officer on Monday.
Sunita is the first major contestant to file nomination. She is the wife of Maganti Gopinath, whose death in June necessitated the by-election.
Gopinath, who scored a hat-trick of wins from Jubilee Hills in 2023, died of cardiac arrest on June 8.
To cash in on the perceived sympathy among voters, BRS fielded Sunita in the by-election.
Along with BRS working president KT Rama Rao and other senior party leaders, he handed over two sets of nomination papers to Returning Officer P. Sairam.

In the 2023 elections, Gopinath defeated former Indian cricket captain and Congress candidate Mohammad Azharuddin by 16,337 votes.
This time, Congress has fielded Naveen Yadav as its candidate, while BJP has once again decided to field Lankala Deepak Reddy, who stood third in the last election.
Naveen Yadav can file his nomination on Thursday.
October 21 is the last date for filing nominations. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on October 22 and candidatures can be withdrawn till October 24.
Voting will take place on November 11, while counting of votes will take place on November 14.
Meanwhile, as part of the Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative, election officials installed digital traffic display boards displaying the polling date at major junctions in Panjagutta and Khairatabad.
Hyderabad District Election Officer RV Karnan said, these lively demonstrations serve as a constant reminder to citizens to exercise their right to vote, actively participate and strengthen the spirit of democracy through informed and responsible voting.
