RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said on Sunday that if India Bloc comes to power in Bihar, the monthly allowance of representatives in the state’s Panchayati Raj system will be doubled. he also promised Insurance cover and pension of Rs 50 lakh for them.

Bihar’s Panchayati Raj system has three levels: Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Samiti and Gram Panchayat. Their chairpersons are called ‘Adhyaksha’ (Zilla Parishad), ‘Pramukh’ (Panchayat Samiti), and ‘Mukhiya’ (Gram Panchayat).

Nitish Kumar government had increased the allowances in June. Now District Council Presidents get Above Rs 30,000 per month 20,000; vice president to 20,000 10,000; and chiefs from 7,500 5,000.

Bihar currently has 8,053 gram panchayats, 533 panchayat samitis, and 38 zila parishads. A ‘gram kachahari’ has been set up in each gram panchayat to provide local justice.

Yadav also said that the per quintal margin money for Public Distribution System (PDS) distributors would be increased. At present, PDS distributors receive 258.40 per quintal. he added this Interest free loan of Rs 5 lakh will be given to barbers, potters and carpenters in the state.

Voting for the 243-member Bihar Assembly will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11, the results of which will be declared on November 14.

Last week, Yadav had promised that if the India Bloc wins, all contractual government employees and about 2 lakh ‘community mobilisers’ or ‘jeevika didis’ will be made permanent employees.

These mobilizers will receive 30,000 per month. Interest on their existing loans will be waived off and new interest free loans will be provided for the next two years.
