Teenagers held in Punjab for cross -cross smuggling

Chandigarh, 2 October (IANS) In a major success, the Punjab Police recovered a cross-business weapons and drug smuggling network with a link to Pakistan with a link to five operators, including a teenager, and 12 sophisticated.

Those arrested are all residents of Mari Megha village in Taran Taran, Karan Singh (22), Karandip Singh (19) and Ajaypal Singh (18); Jashanpreet Singh (18) of Rania village in Amritsar and 16 -year -old teenager.

DGP Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused, Joban Singh and Jashanpreet Singh, were in direct contact with the smugglers in Pakistan and were interacting through social media to receive and give a consignment of weapons and drugs.

He said that push-in weapon consignments were to fuel the inter-gang rivals in Punjab.

The DGP said that further investigation is going on to establish a relationship in the case to highlight the full Nexus.

Sharing the operation details, Police Commissioner (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that during a checkpoint in Hakima area, police teams have arrested the suspects Joban Singh, Karandip Singh and Ajaypal Singh and recovered five -30 bore pistols from their possession.

All three belong to the same village which is located close to the international border, saying that the smugglers in Pakistan used drones to release weapons and drug consignments.

He said that on the basis of the revelations, the accused Joban Singh’s colleagues, Jashanpreet Singh and a teenager were arrested with seven pistols.

On the continuous questioning of Joban Singh, he revealed the details about the consignment of 1.5 kg of heroin, which was recovered from the location he had, he said.

On September 28, a case has been registered under Section 25 and 21-C and 29 narcotics of the ARMS Act under Section 25 of the Drugs and Psychotropic Material Act, which is in Police Station Gate Hakima in Amritsar.
