A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion murder Following the death of a nine-year-old girl at an address in weston-super-mare,
Avon and Somerset Police He said they were called to Lime Close in the Mead Vale area of the city at 6.09pm on Monday.
A nine-year-old girl was declared dead at the scene. The boy was arrested near Worle at 6.19 pm and is still in custody.
Superintendent Jane Appleford said: “We know everything weston-super-mare I will be distraught and shocked to know this very terrible news.
“The girl’s family were informed last night what had happened. It is impossible for us to express in words the pain and suffering they are feeling right now.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to him, and we will ensure he receives support from a specially trained officer.
“A criminal Investigation Work is already underway to establish the facts of this case. The formal identification process has not yet been completed, and a post-mortem examination will also be conducted.
“Out of respect for the family we would ask the public not to speculate about the circumstances or the identities of those involved, as this would only add to their immense distress.”
A statement from officers said a police cordon was in place in Lime Close while the investigation continued and door-to-door inquiries had begun.
Superintendent Appleford said: “We have no doubt that the community will come together in response to this tragedy.
“Inquiries are being carried out at the property as part of our investigation and we would ask for the public’s patience and understanding while that work is carried out.
“We will ensure that our officers are available to provide reassurance and support to everyone.
“There will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days, and we urge anyone with concerns to please speak to us, although we want to reassure people that we are not aware of any increased risk to public safety.
“We will continue to update the public as our investigation progresses.”
