Team India can go to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025, BCCI has put ‘only condition’. cricket news

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajiv Shukla said that the Indian team will be sent to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy next year only when the central government gives permission for it. The ICC Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan from February next year to March 2025. This comes amid media reports that India may not travel to Pakistan for the tournament. Since the 2008 Asia Cup, India has not played any cricket tournament in Pakistan due to strained relations between the two countries due to terrorism.

The bilateral series in India from December 2012–January 2013 was also the last bilateral series between the two countries. Since then, the two countries have met only in ICC tournaments and the Asia Cup.

Speaking to ANI, Shukla said, “In the case of the Champions Trophy, we will do whatever the Government of India asks us to do. We send our team only when the Government of India allows us. So we will go by that.” For the decision of the Government of India.”

Pakistan were forced to use a hybrid strategy when hosting the Asia Cup last year, with all of India’s matches – including those against Pakistan – taking place in Sri Lanka. The final of the tournament, which India won, was held in Colombo. Although Pakistan hinted at the possibility of using a hybrid approach to participate in the ODI World Cup in India last year, it was never considered. They eventually played all their games at five different venues in India, before being eliminated in the group round.

Pakistan is the defending champion of the Champions Trophy last held in 2017.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named Lahore as the sole venue for India’s matches for the Champions Trophy, which has been awarded to Pakistan for next year, as ESPNcricinfo reported earlier in May.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the PCB has finalized three venues – Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi – to host the two-week Champions Trophy. India’s draft schedule calls for them to play all their games in Lahore, which is also the venue of the final.

It is said that the idea of keeping India in one place was put forward to avoid potentially significant logistical and security issues related to their visit. Additionally, it provides a comparatively easier option to Indian fans as it is headquartered in Lahore, near the Wagah border between the two countries.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi had earlier said that the board has sent a draft schedule of the tournament, which is likely to be held in mid-February next year, to the ICC. There will be a discussion involving the eight members attending, with the main issue likely to be whether the Indian team will travel or not.
