Nameplate return: Tata Motors has unveiled the new Tata Sierra ahead of its launch on November 25. Following a concept showcase at the 2023 Auto Expo and a more developed prototype earlier this year, the iconic nameplate is back after nearly 28 years. Bookings are expected to start on the launch day. This model marks the revival of the Sierra, which was discontinued in 2003.
exterior design: The new Sierra has a boxy silhouette and flat roof inspired by the original 1990s model, but has switched to a five-door layout. It has a black fascia with full-width LED light bars, sleek headlamps, a thick bumper, faux skid plate and squared-off arches. Highlights include 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, black roof rails, roof spoiler and flush door handles.
Rear Styling: At the rear, the SUV features slim LED taillights, a connected light bar and a central Tata emblem with Sierra letters below. A slightly curved windshield, flat tailgate, gloss-black cladding, shark-fin antenna and silver-finish faux skid plate complete the look. The blacked-out C- and D-pillars with partial roof blackout create the same illusion as the distinctive glass section of the original.
Cabin Layout: Inside, the Sierra offers a triple-screen dashboard layout, a first in a Tata model. It includes a digital instrument cluster, central infotainment touchscreen and a co-passenger display with synchronized content capability. The cabin uses recycled materials and features a black-grey theme, a four-spoke steering wheel with illuminated logos, a panoramic sunroof that extends to the C-pillar and five seats with adjustable headrests.
Feature Set: Feature highlights include dual-zone automatic climate control, ventilated powered front seats, wireless charging, rear sunshade, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a JBL 12-speaker audio system and multi-colour ambient lighting. Safety equipment is expected to include multiple airbags, ESC, TPMS, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera and level-2 ADAS. An electronic parking brake is also provided.
Engine Options: The Sierra will be offered with petrol, diesel and electric versions, with the internal combustion models coming first. It debuts Tata’s new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing around 168-170hp and 280Nm, paired with manual and automatic options. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine will serve as the entry option. A 1.5-litre diesel producing 118hp and 260Nm will also be available with both transmission variants.
Additional Powertrains: Tata will also offer a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine borrowed from the Harrier and Safari, which will generate 168bhp and 350Nm. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol is expected to produce around 120hp and 140Nm, while the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol variant offers 168bhp and 280Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual, 6-speed torque converter automatic and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, depending on the engine.
Launch and Price: The new Sierra is one of the most anticipated models from Tata Motors for 2025. Prices will be announced on November 25 and are expected to drop 11 lakh more 20 lakh, ex-showroom. The SUV combines classic Sierra cues with updated styling, modern features and new-generation powertrains, positioning it as a flagship product in Tata’s expanding lineup.
