Tata Panch has been ruling the Indian passenger vehicle for two consecutive months now

In a rare twist of fate, Maruti Suzuki cars, known for their consistent best-seller status, have ceded their throne in the Indian passenger vehicle market to the Tata panchayat for two consecutive months. Tata Panch sold a total of 17,547 units in March 2024, which increased to 19,158 units in April.

Tata Punch’s rise to stardom is attributed to its SUV body style, which is a popular choice among Indian consumers. India’s fierce love affair with SUVs was underlined by the fact that SUVs accounted for 53 percent of all passenger vehicles sold in FY 2023-24. Tata entered the micro SUV segment in 2001 with the Punch.

A major factor contributing to Punch’s popularity lies in its competitive pricing strategy. Available in both petrol and CNG variants, the Punch offers versatility to cater to various consumer preferences. Petrol variants featuring five-speed manual and five-speed AMT transmissions, in the price range 6.13 lakh from 9.60 lakh (ex-showroom), while the CNG variant ranges 7.23 lakh from 9.85 lakh (ex-showroom).

Apart from its affordability, Tata has infused the punch with many features, which are a sign of value for money in the eyes of Indian consumers. The top variant gets avant-garde elements like 16-inch alloy wheels, projector headlights with LED DRLs and 90-degree opening doors for enhanced accessibility. Last year’s update introduced a range of premium features, including a voice-assisted electric sunroof, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, and a seven-inch Harman infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration.

However, it’s not just the bells and whistles that endear consumers to Punch; Safety is paramount in Tata’s design philosophy. The Punch stands as a beacon of safety in its segment, earning the prestigious five-star Global NCAP safety crash test rating in 2021. Notably, it received a five-star rating for adult occupant safety and three stars for child safety. Equipped with innovative features like sway control function, ABS and EBD, twin airbags, fog lamps with cornering function, reverse parking camera, automatic headlamps and rain sensing wipers, the Punch ensures comprehensive safety for occupants and pedestrians alike.
