Chennai, Nov 12 (IANS) The Tamil Nadu Elementary Education Department has announced the list of 114 best performing schools across the state for the 2024-25 academic year, with three schools selected from each of the 38 districts.
The awards will be distributed during a special function on November 14, Children’s Day, at Alagappa Model Higher Secondary School, Karaikudi.
According to a circular issued by the department, school heads, eminent teachers and District Education Officers (DEOs) of shortlisted institutions have been directed to participate in the programme.
State School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi will preside over the function and present the awards.
The awards, which recognize excellence in academic and co-curricular performance, are given annually to three schools from primary to middle level from each district.
Selection is based on a number of criteria, including student outcomes, teaching innovation, community involvement and quality of infrastructure.
In Chennai district, the three institutions selected for this year’s honor are ICF Primary School in ICF Colony, Venugopal Chetty Primary School in Sri Muthukumaraswamy Devasthanam P. Royapuram and Thiru V Ka Nagar Primary School.
A teacher from one of the recognized schools expressed pride and gratitude at the selection.
The teacher said, “To be recognized as one of the best schools in the state is truly inspiring. We are implementing many creative and practical teaching methods that help our students understand the lessons more effectively.”
He said the school has also invested heavily in infrastructure, ensuring that classrooms and laboratories are well equipped to meet modern learning needs.
“We believe a supportive environment is essential for academic growth and creativity,” he said.
An education department official said district chief education officers (CEOs) play an important role in identifying schools based on the department’s guidelines.
“The Best Schools Awards are presented every year since 2002 to encourage innovation and excellence in education. This year’s selection recognizes outstanding contributions for the 2024-25 academic year,” the official said.
The official said, the objective of the annual recognition is to motivate schools across the state to continue efforts towards raising educational standards and holistic development of students.
