The incident took place on Sunday, November 30, at a women’s hostel where Sripriya lived. According to officials, an argument broke out between the two shortly after the meeting. The man reportedly took out a sickle and attacked her several times.
Shockingly, authorities reported that he then took a selfie with her body and posted it as his WhatsApp status, alleging that she had ‘cheated’ on him.
In the caption, Balamurugan wrote, “The price of betrayal is death.”
Sripriya died on the spot, while other women in the hostel fled before they could contact the authorities. Balamurugan did not attempt to flee the scene and waited for the police to arrive. Rathinapuri police arrested him on the spot and confiscated the weapon.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the man believed his wife was in an affair with another man.
The couple had been living separately for several months due to personal reasons and have three children, two sons and a daughter.
Last year, she had reportedly moved from Tirunelveli to her mother’s house in Ganapathy, Coimbatore. After a disagreement with her mother she left her children in her mother’s care and moved into a private women’s hostel.
Sripriya worked in a private firm in Coimbatore.
Officials have sent the body to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered in this matter and further investigation is being done.
