A shocking case of gang rape has come to light from Tamil Nadu, where a college student was allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted by three men near the Coimbatore International Airport on Sunday, November 2. The accused are currently absconding, and the police have started a massive search for the accused.

The incident occurred around 11 pm when the student, pursuing her degree in a private college in Coimbatore, was talking to her male friend inside a car parked in a secluded area behind the airport.

Reportedly, the trio attacked her friend and forcibly took the victim to another place and sexually assaulted her. Meanwhile, her male friend, identified as Vineeth, who was seriously injured, reached Peelamedu police station and alerted the police, IANS reported.

Later, during a search operation, the student was found lying unconscious and without clothes in a nearby vacant plot.

Speaking to NDTV, a senior police officer said that the victim is undergoing treatment. “A sexual assault has taken place, the victim is undergoing treatment and is safe. Seven special teams are searching for the suspects. We will update you as soon as we get any breakthrough,” the police officer said.

Police have launched a massive search to trace and arrest the accused persons. They are also reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing potential witnesses from the area.

According to India Today sources, the accused had stolen a motorcycle before committing the crime on Sunday.

Terming the Coimbatore incident as ‘extremely shocking and heart-breaking’, BJP leader K Annamalai said the case reflected the failure of the DMK government to ensure the safety of women.

“Ever since the DMK came to power in Tamil Nadu, such incidents have shown that anti-social elements no longer fear the law or the police. From DMK ministers to police officers, there has been a disturbing pattern of protecting sex offenders instead of ensuring justice. The DMK government has completely failed to prevent sexual crimes and provide safety to women,” he wrote on X.
