Chennai, Nov 1 (IANS) Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran announced that the countdown to the end of the DMK government has begun, saying Chief Minister MK Stalin’s rule has “failed the people on every front.”
Speaking to reporters after paying floral tributes at the statue of the great Chola emperor Raja Raja Cholan at the historic Brihadeshwara temple in Thanjavur on the occasion of the king’s 1040th birth anniversary, Nagenthran said Raja Raja Cholan was different from all other kings in the history of India for his foresight, statesmanship skills and administrative excellence.
He said, “Many kings have ruled this country, but none equaled the greatness of Raja Raja Cholan. His rule and architectural genius made the Chola Empire a model of prosperity.”
He reminded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier attended the celebrations of the 1000th year of Raja Raja Cholan’s successor, Rajendra Cholan, at Gangaikonda Cholapuram – an event which, according to him, drew global attention to Tamil culture and heritage.
Nagenthran said the BJP will soon raise with the Center a proposal to install a statue of Emperor Raja Raja Cholan inside the Brihadeshwara temple complex in consultation with cultural experts and senior leaders.
Turning to contemporary issues, the BJP leader attacked the DMK government for “ignoring the plight of farmers” in the Cauvery delta region.
“Paddy procurement has become very slow. Bags of harvested grain are accumulating in storage centers and most of them have sprouted and started rotting. Trucks loaded with paddy have been waiting for days. Farmers are protesting, but the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister are busy watching movies instead of addressing their grievances,” he alleged.
Nagenthran said that DMK has failed to fulfill even a single major pre-poll promise.
He declared, “This government has betrayed the farmers, youth and women. Its credibility has been lost. Only 140 days are left for DMK’s misrule to end. The countdown has begun.”
He predicted that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would be victorious in the upcoming elections, saying, “The people of Tamil Nadu are ready for change, and the NDA will definitely win.”
