Talking to Ottawa metals, veteran Rio Tinto helps us about cash flow between tariffs

OTTAWA – Industry Minister Mélanie Joly says that the federal government is talking to Rio Tinto, the legendary of mining and metals to help the company with cash flow problems due to the global steel and aluminum tariffs of the United States.

During the visit of Sagun, Q on Thursday to meet businesses in the important aluminum sector of the province, Jolie said reporters said that Ottawa had started a conversation with the firm early this week.

US President Donald Trump last month doubled his administration’s global tariff on steel and aluminum.

Prime Minister Mark Carney said that Canada will provide his response to that latest volley in the trade war on July 21, on the basis of how the dialogue between nations is going on by that time.

Rio Tinto says it employs some 4,000 people in the Sagune-Lake-Sent-Gyrin area and plans to create a new $ 1.4 billion aluminum smelters in the region.

The Quebec Premier François Lagault is also ready to announce support for the province’s aluminum sector this afternoon.
