Taliban works to return land to Afghan Sikhs and Hindus

There are multiple signs that the Afghan Taliban government is working to return land taken by Sikhs and Hindus to them.

It was previously reported that Narendra Singh Khalsa, the former representative of Hindus and Sikhs in the Afghan parliament, has returned to Afghanistan from Canada.

During Afghanistan’s early regime, Taliban warlords seized much of the land from Hindus and Sikhs.

According to a report by Kabul’s Ariana News on March 10, the Land Usage Prevention and Restitution Committee has begun investigating cases of land usurpation from Hindu and Sikh communities across the Islamic Emirate.

The Taliban has begun restoring properties for displaced Sikhs and Hindus across the country, a month after it was launched by the Taliban Ministry of Justice, The Hindu reported.

“A committee chaired by the attorney general has been formed to return all properties that were appropriated by warlords during the previous regime to their owners,” Suhail Shaheen, director of the Taliban’s political office, told The Hindu.

According to Afghanistan International, “Hindu and Sikh representatives have met with Taliban officials in Kabul several times over the past nearly three years. They have expressed concerns about the encroachment on their lands and urged the Taliban to address the issue.”

According to the Times of India, Indian officials viewed this development as a positive gesture towards India.

According to the report, “The Taliban Return Committee for Communication with Former Afghan Officials announced that Narendra Singh Khalsa, the former Hindu and Sikh representative in Afghanistan’s parliament, has returned to the country from Canada.”

Khalsa’s return to Afghanistan is significant amid reports that the Taliban government is working to return encroached lands to Hindus and Sikhs.
