The Taliban’s foreign ministry announced on Sunday that its representatives would not attend an upcoming meeting in Doha.

Afghanistan’s national and regional envoys will convene a two-day meeting in Doha on Sunday. This is the second time the United Nations has held such a meeting in less than a year.

The meeting is a follow-up to talks held in Doha in May 2023, to which no Afghans were invited. But this time, both members of Afghan civil society and Taliban authorities have been invited to the upcoming meeting.

In a statement, the Taliban cited the failure of the United Nations to accept their conditions as the reason for their absence from the meeting.Group upset over aid freeze to conflict zones, demands more relief

The purpose of the UN-sponsored meeting was to reach a consensus among all those responding immediately to Afghanistan

On the other hand, the international community wants to relax the rights of Afghan women and children

According to senior Taliban government sources, the announcement will attract attention from the United Nations and other countries.

On Saturday, the foreign ministry said it had reiterated its conditions to the United Nations.

“Participation would be beneficial if the Islamic Emirate participates as the only official representative of Afghanistan and if the Afghan delegation and the United Nations are given the opportunity to have frank dialogue at a very high level on all issues,” a ministry statement said.
