He said the Telangana Police started investigation after the address mentioned in Sajid Akram’s Indian passport was found to be Hyderabad.
During interrogation, police learned that Akram was born in Hyderabad and had first come to the city in October 2000 after migrating abroad in 1998 for education and employment.
His European wife also accompanied him during that trip.
He later visited Hyderabad after his father’s death in 2004 and again in February 2009, although the visit was not to attend the funeral, the DGP said.
Akram then visited the city in July 2012 and March 2016 to settle property-related matters with his family members.
“His last visit was in July 2022, apparently to meet his mother and sister. That’s all the information we have about his links to Hyderabad. We don’t have any information to suggest that he was radicalized here or that he had any such links in the city,” Reddy told reporters.
He was responding to a question on whether Akram’s visit to Hyderabad could have contributed to his alleged radicalization or whether he had any local connections.
According to Telangana Police, Akram’s visit to India after his stay in Australia was mainly for family-related reasons, including property issues and meeting elderly relatives.

Australian officials have described the incident as a terrorist attack inspired by the Islamic State.
According to officials, the suspects were a father and son, aged 50 and 24. An elderly man named Sajid Akram was shot dead, while his son is undergoing treatment in the hospital.
