Srinagar, Nov 9 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday swore on the Holy Quran that he did not want to forge an alliance with the BJP in 2024 over statehood or any other reason.
Omar was responding to BJP leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Sunil Sharma’s allegation that Omar had gone to Delhi to form an alliance with the BJP to form the government in 2024.
Sharma challenged Omar Abdullah to go to any mosque or religious place and take an oath that he has not sought an alliance with the BJP after the 2024 assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Taking Sharma’s allegation very seriously, the Chief Minister wrote in a post on X, “I swear on the Holy Quran that I did not seek alliance with BJP in 2024 for statehood or for any other reason. Unlike Sunil Sharma, I do not lie for livelihood.”
Sharma had given a statement on Sunday in which he had challenged Omar to take oath if he had not formed an alliance with the BJP in 2024.
Sharma said in his statement, “I swear on the Quran, you did not want an alliance with BJP for the state in 2024.”
The political temperature heated up as the election campaign for the two assembly seats of Nagrota and Budgam ended on Sunday evening, as by-elections are to be held in both the constituencies on November 11.
Omar is telling the voters that there is a gang of all other political parties against NC in Budgam, as he feels that BJP, PDP, Apni Party and others have joined hands to defeat NC’s Agha Mehmood in this by-election.
The by-election in Budgam had become necessary because Omar Abdullah had won two seats of Budgam and Ganderbal in the 2024 assembly elections. Later he resigned from Budgam seat.
Nagrota Assembly seat fell vacant as BJP MLA Devendra Singh Rana, who represented the constituency, died on October 31, 2024.
BJP has fielded Devyani Rana, daughter of Devender Singh Rana, from Nagrota seat.
