A bronx Man charged with attempted murder in shooting New York Jets‘Player Chris Boyd, Police The announcement was made on Tuesday.
new york Frederick Green, 20, was charged late Monday night, the police department said. Police had revealed earlier in the day that a “person of interest” was in custody, but did not release his name. Green is expected to appear in court later Tuesday.
It was not immediately clear whether Green had an attorney. Police said he faces additional charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
boyd Boyd, his friend and two other Jets players, Irvin Charles and Jamion Sherwood, were shot in the stomach in midtown Manhattan at 2 a.m. on November 16 after a group of men approached them and made fun of their clothing as they left the club, police told reporters at a news briefing.
Police said a fight eventually broke out between the men, with Green shooting Boyd during the scuffle and then fleeing in a white BMW. Boyd and his friends were not armed.
Boyd was hospitalized after the shooting and was initially in critical condition.
However, he was able to speak to Jets coach Aaron Glenn who gave positive updates on Boyd’s condition in the days following the shooting.
Boyd was able to visit the Jets’ training facility a few weeks later, surprising teammates and attending a special teams meeting.
The Jets signed Boyd earlier this year but he was injured in practice this summer and has yet to play for the team.
The 29-year-old played his first four seasons in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings, before signing with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and then joining Houston’s practice squad after that season.
It has not been confirmed when he might return to action as his recovery from the shoot continues.
