According to the New York Police Department, when officers arrived, they found a dismembered body stuffed inside a blue trash can.
On Sunday, Christopher Moss, 38, was taken into custody and charged with concealing a human corpse.
Moss’s relationship to the victim, who has not been identified, was not immediately clear. But neighbors said the two men were roommates and a couple and were often heard fighting.

“The apartment was in the name of the shorter one, and the taller apartment was always violent with the shorter one,” said neighbor Eduardo Lemus. CBS New York“It’s crazy to think that someone would do that, you know, and just leave that person out there.”
Several neighbors told local news outlets that the fights had increased in the past week.
“The last few days, it was hot,” said Phyllis Larrier. “I think the other guy was not letting him in, wouldn’t let him in, because he was banging on the door.”
But then at the beginning of the week the fighting suddenly stopped, and in its place an unmistakable stench filled the sixth-floor corridor.
“Last night when we came in… he was burning incense,” Larrier said. “The first time I heard that incense was burning in the hallway. This is unusual.”
Another neighbor said, “As soon as that door opens, that blow will hit you in the face.” abc7“You’d be on the other side of the apartment from the entrance and you’d still smell it. It was definitely a dead body.”
The superintendent of the building told police that he had seen a tenant placing several large garbage bags outside on Friday morning, just before the body parts were discovered.
The gruesome discovery has left residents of the area worried.
“Shocking. Very shocking,” said neighbor Thomas Williams. “Because I’ve lived here since 2004, and we’ve never had an incident this big on this block.”
The NYPD has not released additional details but said the investigation is ongoing.
