Suskechewan Premier Scott Mo Heads to China September 6

Regina – Saskechewan Premier Scott Mo says he leaves in two weeks to talk about business in China as his province struggles with punishing the tariff on canola.

Mo’s office says that the six-day journey started from Sept 6, for the first time in six years that a Canadian premiere has led a trade mission for China.

MOE has invited Prime Minister Mark Carney and other federal ministers to join the journey, including a stop in Japan.

The bets are high.

China imposed about 76 percent tariffs on canola seeds last week, the value of one of the Canada for millions of dollars – and one of the most valuable crops in Suskechewan.

Canola has been at the center of a trade dispute between Canada and China, which has seen China unhappy with 100 percent tariff of Canada on Chinese electric vehicles.

While Mo is in China, Suskechewan will lead a three -day mission in South Korea before joining the MOE in Suskechewan, Varren Keding.

“Suskechewan has expressed readiness to the federal government and clarified that we need to see action to support more than 200,000 people in Canada’s Canada industry,” Mo said in a statement on Friday.

“That’s why we are leading through this mission, strengthening future trade opportunities and joining these temporary duties before too long.”

The government says the export of the province to Asia exceeded $ 10 billion in 2024, with exports to China with $ 4.4 billion of the figure.
