The decision went to the third umpire, who declared Samson out. Many experts and former cricketers gave their opinion about the catch and former India batsman Wasim Jaffer also said that the third umpire should have taken more time before giving the decision.

“From the replays we saw, I thought he was out. The foot was not touching the rope. There was no conclusive evidence. There was an international umpire. Shai Hope also said so, although obviously the fielder would have said it. ” But overall, the way it was looking, I thought it was out,” Jaffer told ESPN Cricinfo.

“They should have taken more time. I’m surprised how quickly they took the decision. It was a very important moment in the match. RR’s victory depended on that. You could have seen it with 2-3 more angles or one Super slo-mo, I also thought they took a hasty decision,” he said.

Apart from Jaffer, former England batsman Paul Collingwood also gave similar opinion and said that the third umpire should have investigated from different angles.

“Goughy (Michael Gough) is a very good friend of mine. So I’m going to defend him (laughs). Maybe he could have given himself another angle to double-check. Because it was so close. Those decisions and those moments make a huge difference, so maybe he could have given himself a little bit more time,” Collingwood told Star Sports.

“I know that in the IPL, the organizers want to rush things, the umpires are being told that they have to make decisions quickly. I think, on this occasion, there are a few more angles to clarify if everyone is in trouble. Could easily be the best way to go,” he said.
