On October 6, the Supreme Court had sought response from the Center and Union Territory Ladakh on the petition.
Wangchuk, who is currently lodged in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur jail, is being held under the stringent NSA, which allows detention without trial for up to 12 months.
He was arrested on September 26, two days after protests demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule status for Ladakh turned violent, leaving four dead and at least 90 injured.
Officials said Wangchuk is being investigated over suspected links with Pakistan, while the Center had also accused him of inciting violence among the youth of Ladakh.
Angmo has been demanding his release ever since. He condemned the “anti-national” statements and other allegations made against Wangchuk and his institutions in Ladakh.
“Anybody who wants to talk about this, I give them an open challenge and we can prove with facts and evidence that all these allegations are false,” she said during a press conference in September.
Wangchuk had made it clear that he had expressed his demands only through non-violent methods and peaceful protests. He also criticized the government for using him as a scapegoat to divert the public from the real issues of Ladakh.
The people of Ladakh are demanding that the BJP government fulfill its promise to include Ladakh under the Sixth Schedule as 97% of the population is indigenous tribals. This promise was made more than five years ago during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
