Marks & Spencer has launched a new range of meals and snacks designed to support individuals managing their diet while taking weight loss drugs. The ‘Nutritional Dense’ range consists of 20 products designed to ensure customers meet their recommended daily intake of fibre, vitamins and minerals. M&S said the products are particularly suitable for people with a reduced appetite or those taking GLP-1 weight loss pills.
These include an H5O drink, which contains five botanical ingredients that have been rigorously selected and verified by scientists at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The range also includes coconut water, cold-pressed ginger juice, fruit and vegetable fiber, seaweed, and a variety of salads, prepared foods and breads, including a “Super Seed Oat Bread.” The move comes amid a significant increase in use of GLP-1 weight loss drugs.
Figures provided to The Telegraph by life sciences analytics company IQVIA show that 2.49 million bales of Mounjaro and Wegovy were purchased in July, up from 493,000 bales last year.
According to the newspaper, sales increased by 1 million between July and August, but this was against the backdrop of widespread reports of stockpiling ahead of price increases in September.
It is estimated that around 90% of people who get weight loss injections pay for their injections online or privately through high street pharmacies.
The NHS has begun rolling out Mounjaro, but with strict restrictions on who is eligible.
Within three years, the health service expects to vaccinate 240,000 people.
Nutrient-dense foods are those that provide more concentrated sources of vitamins, minerals, fiber, healthy fats, and protein relative to their calorie content.
M&S cited new research from the government’s National Diet and Nutrition Survey 2025, which found the UK population is deficient in a number of nutrients, with 96% not meeting daily fiber recommendations.
Annette Peters, head of food trends at M&S, said: “The Nutrient Dense range is very exciting and will be great for anyone trying to reach their nutritional goals.
“It’s also good if a client is reducing their food intake, such as a client taking weight loss medications.
“We know the use of GLP-1 medicines is growing, so it’s more important than ever to ensure we can help provide the right levels of nutrition even if people are eating less.
“We challenged ourselves to make products that are more nutrient dense than calories, so every bite is packed with more of the good stuff we all need.”
The Nutrient Dense range will be available in M&S Foodhalls from 5 January.
