The 2026 Sundance Film Festival Jury will announce this year’s winners on Friday morning park city,Utah.
Filmmakers Janicza Bravo, Nisha Ganatra and Azazel Jacobs served as judges for the U.S. drama competition, including Beth De Araújo’s “Josephine,” starring Channing Tatum and Gemma ChanRachel Lambert’s romantic drama Carousel with Chris Pine Jenny Slater“Ha-chan, shake your booty!” and “The Musical.”
Documentaries that won awards in world and US competitions include Closure, The Lake, Seized and Who Killed Alex Odeh? “The jury includes film critic Zhang Yuning and film producer AV Rockwell.
“This year’s jury represents a rare depth of creative conviction and a range of excellence, comprised of artists and thinkers who know what it means to take risks,” festival director Eugene Hernandez said in a statement. “They bring curiosity, rigor, and a deep respect for bold storytelling, qualities that are critical to discovering the films that will define the future of independent cinema.”
The festival previously awarded the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Award, which recognizes outstanding films representing science or technology, to Andrew Stanton’s “In the Blink.”
The Sundance Awards can sometimes be the first stop for eventual Oscar nominees and winners, especially “CODA” and “Summer of Soul.” Documentaries are more likely to be on the Oscar stage than narrative films. Three of last year’s special awards nominees for this year’s best documentary were “Perfect Neighbors,” “Through the Rocks” and “Nobody Against Mr. Putin,” along with festival favorites “Come and See Me in the Sun” and “The Alabama Solution.”
Last year’s U.S. Drama Jury Prize went to the war satire “Atropia,” while the Audience Award went to Dylan O’Brien’s black comedy “Twinless.”
The Sundance Film Festival runs through Sunday.
