dogs May be able to slow biological aging in middle age womenThis has been suggested in a new study.
new analysis of woman military veteran In America it was found that a one-hour session a week Dogs have improved overall cellular health and showed “promising” biological benefits to people suffering from PTSD.
The research, led by a team of scientists at Florida Atlantic University, analyzed 28 female veterans who volunteered to train service dogs that would later be used to help injured soldiers.
To assess whether exposure to dogs produced benefits, researchers looked at the participants’ telomere length to determine the biological pace of their aging.
They also recorded data from saliva samples and heart rate variability (HRV) and asked participants to wear monitors. Those who participated were divided into a service dog training group, or a group that watched dog training videos.

The findings, which were published in the journal Behavioral Sciences, found that veterans who participated in a dog-training program saw an increase in telomere length.
Those watching the video saw a reduction in telomere length, indicating accelerated aging.
Mental health improvements were similar in both groups, while the findings showed that service dog training may be particularly beneficial for those suffering from psychological stress or with combat experience.
Professor Cheryl Cross-Perello, FAU Associate Vice President of Research and first author of the study, said: “Women veterans face unique reintegration challenges that are often overlooked, and traditional PTSD treatments do not always meet their needs.
“Non-traditional approaches like connecting with animals can provide meaningful support.
“These relationships provide emotional security and stability, which can be especially powerful for women.”
