KOTTAYAM: Five third-year nursing students from the Government Nursing College have been arrested for allegedly ragging first-year students over the past three months, police said on Wednesday.
According to a complaint filed by three first-year students, the ragging began in November and involved extreme physical and mental harassment.
The victims alleged they were forced to stand naked and subjected to violent acts using dumbbells meant for weightlifting.
The complaint further states that seniors inflicted wounds using compasses and similar objects before applying lotion to the injuries. The juniors were also forced to have cream smeared on their faces, heads, and mouths.
Additionally, the accused allegedly extorted money from juniors every Sunday to buy alcohol and frequently assaulted them.
Unable to endure the abuse any longer, three students approached the Kottayam Gandhinagar police, leading to the arrests.
