A planned strike vote among workers on the Whitelink ferry has been canceled after the dispute was resolved.
Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) were to vote on whether to take industrial action over working practices.
Whitelink said it has withdrawn its original offer and has agreed to ongoing discussions with rmt Finding improvements for the “long-term sustainability” of the company.
Katy Taylor, chief executive of Whitelink, said: “We are delighted we have managed to reach this important step. We take our responsibility as a lifeline service seriously and we are doing everything we can to avoid industrial action because we know the impact it has on our customers.
“We will continue to dialogue with the RMT and hope to agree a way forward to make the changes that are needed to further improve our services, increase flexibility and add additional sailings.”
RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey said: “This is a successful outcome for RMT members at Whitelink who stood together and showed the company that they will not accept threats to their jobs or safety.
“The RMT is always ready to engage in genuine conversations about reforms, but we will never accept changes that put jobs or safety at risk.”
