Stock market today: BSE Sensex opens in green; Nifty50 above 23,050

Stock market today: Indian equity benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and Nifty50, opened in green on Thursday. While BSE Sensex was above 76,200, Nifty50 was near 23,100. At 9:17 AM, BSE Sensex was trading at 76,258.00, up 87 points or 0.11%. Nifty50 was at 23,071.10, up 26 points or 0.11%.
Indian stock markets showed resilience on Wednesday as Nifty recovered approximately 250 points from its intraday low. Market participants are keenly observing Prime Minister Modi’s two-day diplomatic visit to the United States, which is expected to address crucial strategic matters.
Should the reversal pattern receive confirmation, it might trigger a substantial upward movement. Support exists at 22,800 levels. Sustained trading above 23,150-23,200 could lead to further short-term gains.
The S&P 500 finished lower on Wednesday after US inflation data exceeded expectations, raising concerns about delayed Federal Reserve interest rate reductions. However, CVS Health and Gilead Sciences saw gains following positive quarterly results.

Thursday saw Australian markets open slightly higher. Futures for Japanese and Hong Kong indices rose, while US-listed Chinese firms’ indicator gained 2.7% on Wednesday. US stock futures showed modest gains following Wednesday’s S&P 500 decline of 0.3% and Nasdaq 100’s rise of 0.1%.
Gold prices moved higher on Thursday, as investors monitored developments regarding U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff proposals, which could trigger international trade tensions, whilst awaiting U.S. inflation figures scheduled later in the day.
The U.S. dollar maintained positions near a one-week peak against the Japanese yen on Thursday following higher-than-anticipated consumer price data, whilst the euro found support from news about Washington’s intention to initiate discussions with Russia regarding Ukraine conflict resolution.
Foreign portfolio investors registered net sales of Rs 4,969 crore on Wednesday. Domestic institutional investors acquired shares valued at Rs 5929 crore.
FIIs’ net short position increased to Rs 1.86 lakh crore on Wednesday from Rs 1.84 lakh crore on Tuesday.
