Srinagar, September 30 (IANS) senior Congress leader and opposition Lok Sabha leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday demanded a fair judicial inquiry into the firing incident in Leh Town on 24 September, killing four people, including a retired war veterans.
A decorated Kargil war legendary and retired Ladakh Scouts Soldier Tswang Thartin was killed on 24 September in a security force firing on protesters in Leh.
Rahul Gandhi said on X, “Father, a soldier, son also a soldier – whose blood walks with patriotism. Still, the BJP government shot and took life by shooting him, just because he stood up for Ladakh and his rights. The father’s pain is just asking a question – it is a reward for service to the country today?”
“Our demand is that there should be a proper judicial inquiry in these murders in Ladakh, and the convict should be punished strictly. Modi ji, you have cheated the people of Ladakh. They are demanding their rights, are engaged in dialogue – engaged in dialogue – stop politics of violence and fear,” he said in the post.
On September 24, four protesters died when security forces set fire to an uncontrolled crowd of arson and stone pelters who went to a rampage in Leh city.
The Ladakh administration said that the mob held a CRPF vehicle with the intention of burning the jawan inside the vehicle. Local offices of BJP and Leh Apex Body were burnt by protesters, while Ladakh DGP’s vehicle was demolished, and he ran away with injury.
On 24 September, an uncertain curfew was imposed at Leh, which is being rested in a stagger manner.
On Tuesday, the curfew was rested from 10 am to 2 pm as the officials said the period of rest was passed peacefully.
Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) and transferred to Jodhpur Jail in Rajasthan district as officials said they instigated violence in the city.
Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) have taken out of conversation with the central government, saying that no interaction can happen until the atmosphere of ‘fear, sorrow and anger is addressed.
The two representative bodies have demanded Sonam Wangchuk and the unconditional release of the youth detained after protests in Leh, convicting the Ladakh administration for law and order situation in Leh.
