Israel attacked a house in southern Lebanon on Saturday, killing at least five people, including four from the same family, and wounding nine others, Lebanon’s official state news agency reported.
Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah movement and Israel have been engaged in almost daily cross-border exchanges of fire since war broke out in October between Israel and Hezbollah’s ally Gaza militant group Hamas.
“An attack on a house in the Khirbet Selm area resulted in the deaths of four members of a family,” including a couple and their two children and another person, the NNA said, adding that the mother was also pregnant.
The attack allegedly destroyed the house and injured at least nine people nearby.
According to AFP statistics, at least 312 people (mainly Hezbollah fighters) and 56 civilians have been killed in Lebanon since the war between Israel and Hamas broke out in October.
The fighting is mainly taking place along the border, but there are growing fears of a wider conflict in Lebanon.
Last Tuesday, a Lebanese couple and their son were killed in an Israeli attack on a house in the southern border village of Houla.
In Israel, at least 10 soldiers and 7 civilians were killed.
Hamas’s attacks on southern Israel that triggered the war in Gaza left about 1,200 people dead, mostly civilians, according to Israeli figures.
Israel’s retaliatory campaign to destroy Hamas has killed 30,960 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, according to the Health Ministry of the Hamas-dominated region.
