Chennai, Oct 26 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin has accused the BJP and AIADMK of conspiring to manipulate the electoral rolls through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to disenfranchise working class voters, Scheduled Castes, minorities and women ahead of the 2026 state assembly elections. is charged.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Stalin said the BJP and AIADMK “do not have the strength to face the people during elections” and are relying on deletion of voters’ names to gain unfair advantage. “In Tamil Nadu, their calculations will be proved wrong,” he declared.
Stalin alleged that the BJP, in connivance with the Election Commission, has already removed the names of about 65 lakh voters in Bihar and is now trying to repeat the same in Tamil Nadu. “DMK and India Bloc have been warning that BJP is engaged in such anti-democratic activities with the help of the Election Commission,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the DMK had already submitted a memorandum to the ECI urging it to withdraw the SIR exercise. Stalin warned, “If the Commission insists on making amendments, it should at least give sufficient time to ensure accuracy and prevent disenfranchisement. If it goes ahead without any regard, the DMK will pursue all legal avenues and stand with the people to oppose it.”
Highlighting the DMK’s outreach program ‘Oraniyil Tamil Nadu’ (Tamil Nadu under One Camp), Stalin said it has helped people understand how the state government’s welfare schemes have benefited all sections of the society. “Despite the BJP-led Center refusing to give Tamil Nadu its due, the DMK government has fulfilled its promises through welfare programmes. We have already enrolled two crore members, but our duty is not over yet,” he said.
Calling upon party workers to remain vigilant, the CM alleged that the SIR was being misused as a political weapon to erase genuine voters. He asserted, “The AIADMK, which has surrendered to the BJP, is not concerned about the rights of the people. It is the DMK and Bharat faction that takes the responsibility of protecting the voting rights of the citizens of Tamil Nadu.”
