SSC withdraws Manipur exam results, says data from issue 1 was lost inadvertently

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) recruits personnel for various ministries and departments

Imphal/New Delhi:

The Staff Selection Commission’s (SSC) move to revoke the results of exams for recruitment of police and other personnel in Manipur has sparked huge controversy.

The National Standards Board, which recruits staff for various ministries, posted a notice on its website on Monday that it had withdrawn the exam results after it was discovered that data for a certain stage of the exam was not included in the transcript.

The SSC in the notification said that due to the law and order situation in Manipur, the physical and medical tests for candidates from Manipur are being conducted in a phased manner. Ten months after ethnic violence erupted in Manipur, tensions continue to simmer.

“… data relating to a certain stage was inadvertently omitted when processing the results of March 15, 2024,” the SSC said in the notice.

The purpose of the exam is to recruit general duty policemen in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), Secretariat Security Force (SSF), general duty riflemen in the Assam Rifles and sepoys in the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).

The Meiteis, who form the majority in the valley and belong to the “general” category, protested after seeing the results, which they claimed seemed doubtful because of the number of candidates from the Kuki-Zo tribe, which falls under the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. Abnormally many. cut.

Meitei civil society groups claim the SSC withdrew the results after their protests led to distrust in the examination process.

The Kukizo tribe mainly lives in the southern hills of Manipur and some other areas. The Meiteis’ demand for inclusion in the ST category was one of the factors that ignited the fuse of ethnic violence.

Manipur BJP MP Rajkumar Imo Singh posted on X questioning whether there was more to the matter.

“Is this a real bug or is it a deep penetration in the system, especially where we don’t have ‘general’ access?” Mr Singh was referring to the “general” category.

“But the state government is cracking down on such infiltrators. The Chief Secretary (CS) has been directed to discuss the matter with central officials and ensure that it is rectified. It will not be easy but we all have to be united in our state,” Mr. Singh said , who is also the son-in-law of Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

A joint action committee of the Meitei community had asked the chief minister why candidates from Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), Economically Weaker Groups and non-reserved categories were not selected in the SSC exams – although the results have now been withdrawn It is clearly stated that 107 candidates from non-reserved categories made the cut. The Commission then claimed that there was an inexplicable large number of ST candidates in the unreserved categories.
