Srinagar Police, Food Safety Department conducts joint raids; Rotten meat is destroyed

Web Desk, 12/08/2025

Srinagar, August 12 : In a joint operation, the Srinagar Police and Food Safety Department raided several places across the city, targeted sellers, suspected of selling unhealthy and expired meat products.

During the operation, sufficient amounts of rotten meat were confiscated and destroyed on the spot under the relevant sections of the Food Safety and Standards Act.

In such an action, the Srinagar Police raided the Cold Storage Unit in Parimpora in collaboration with the Food Safety and Standards Association of India (FSSAI) officials, where rotten meat was stored, which was seized, which was later pursued for cold storage under the relevant section of the Food Safety and Standards Act.

Officials confirmed that the action is part of an acute drive to protect public health and ensures strict adherence to food safety standards.

Similarly, acting on the reliable input obtained at the police station Zakura, the authorities identified the operator of Sunshine Foods of Suuraa located in Sicop Zakora, Ab Hameed Kuchay. He has allegedly accused Arif Ahmed Shah, a resident of Bangat Barzulla, of being involved in a criminal conspiracy, to supply a meat decomposed to a large amount of consumption in restaurants and hotels in Srinagar.

Police said that this deliberate task of distributing rotten meat is a serious threat to public health and is a serious offense under the applicable laws.

As a result, FIR No. 48/2025 has been registered at the police station Zakura under Section 271, 275, and 61 (1) of the Joint Code of India (BNS), and further investigation is underway.

The Srinagar Police confirms that inspection and legal action will continue in the coming days to ensure strict compliance and accountability in the food supply chain in public health and safety interests.
