Nuwan Suchhara’s maiden hat-trick and Kusal Mendis’ career-best in the decider against Bangladesh at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday The 86 runs helped Sri Lanka seal victory in the three-match T20I series. Tushara scored a hat-trick and ended the game with a score of 5-20, leading the team to a 28-game winning streak in the series decider. Bangladesh were bowled out for 146 in the final. While celebrating the series win, Sri Lankan players once again sparked the ‘timeout’ controversy – an incident involving Angelo Mathews at the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews was dismissed in a bizarre manner after failing to come on time during the World Cup match against Bangladesh.

According to the time-out rules, the batsman must come on the field within 3 minutes (2 minutes in the World Cup) after the last player was dismissed and be ready to face the next delivery.

When Matthews entered the ground, he experienced some issues with his helmet that required him to request a replacement. During this process, the maximum allowed time has been exceeded.

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Haas decided to appeal and as per the rules, the umpires had to eject Mathews. In the process, Matthews had to leave without receiving any shipments.

The issue has sparked huge controversy among experts, with former and current cricketers divided.

Chasing a target of 175, Bangladesh suffered three successive blows in the fourth over, with Tushara dismissing Najmul Hussain Shanto (1), Tohid Hridoy (0) and Mahmudullah(0).

Tushara then continued his hot form in the sixth over when he dismissed Soumya Sarkar (No. 11) with a yorker with a speed of 138.2 kmph. Wanindu Hasaranga got LBW Jaker Ali for 4 in the ninth over.

Rishad Hossain (53) and Taskin Ahmed (31) fought back bravely but the damage done in the fourth over was too much for Bangladesh to cross the finish line.

Earlier, Mendis’s 86 points laid the foundation for Sri Lanka’s total score of 174/7. After Sri Lanka lost their opener in the fourth innings, Mendis opened his hands and the batsmen stepped up the tempo and delivered big hits on the ground.

Wanindu Hasaranga and Mendis defeated Mustafizur Rahman by 18 runs in the tenth over. Mendis brought up his half-century in the 12th over. Mustafizul led Hasaranga to score 15 points. In the 14th over, Mendis drew a boundary and maximum off Mahdi Hassan for 14 runs.

Taskin Ahmed finally provided a solid breakthrough for the team as he dismissed Mendis who scored 86 runs. Dasun Shanaka took over in the 18th over as he whipped a four and a six off Rishad Hossain. Shanaka’s wicket off the last ball of the last over ended Sri Lanka’s innings at 174/7.
