Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday roped in young Sri Lankan leg-spinner Vijayakanth Viyaskanth as a replacement for injured Wanindu Hasaranga. The ongoing Indian Premier League. Vijayakanth, 22, has played one T20I for Sri Lanka and is an equal replacement for leg-spinner Hasaranga. He joined Sunrisers for a base price of Rs 50 lakh.
“Sunrisers Hyderabad have signed Vijaykanth Viyaskanth as a replacement for the injured Wanindu Hasaranga for the remaining matches of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024,” an IPL statement said.
Hasaranga was bought by the 2016 champions for Rs 150 crore last year and was scheduled to represent SRH in the 2024 IPL.
However, chronic heel pain in his left foot has kept him out of this year’s IPL.
He previously played for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He had a great season in 2022, taking 26 wickets with an economy rate of 7.54, but in 2023, he played only 8 games and took 9 wickets with an economy rate of 8.9.
